What are the options for SDR save/load? I've seen something from firestarter mentioned, but it's a kit from a schematic that's beyond me.
I can backup my floppy disks to PC via my MMC Replay, but I'm wondering what the best (or at least the most reliable) solution is for loading files for, say, a show. Tape (I'm guessing very reliable, but slow as hell)? 3.5" drive? 1541 Ultimate (expensive as hell)? C64TPC (can't find one for sale)?
I lug my 1541 drives around in a suitcase. Not a huge deal and my 5.25" media is relatively good/new (3M, circa 1999). But I'm still wondering if there's something out there I've missed?
Cheers,
Owen

what about that jiffydos? is that required to use this uIEC device with mssiah?
ill try to build up the firestarter device one of these days anyway and if i fail..... il probably give this uIEC a try, because saving my work is starting to be.... NEEDED

Actually you can get the barebones for $50. But, you would need to do your own internal install (my preference). uIEC works with or w/o Jiffydos on your computer. But if you get JiffyDos your C64, load / save time is like 10x faster! btw... I'd suggest uIEC cause you can simply drop programs on your PC / Mac and just simple throw it on the uIEC / C64 and bam! I have games, demo stuff, music software, etc on it. It's really badass! Hooks up just like a drive would.

If you don't want to get into modding and/or building a device yourself (you eventually need to do that with the uIEC, either built-in of external), check out C64SD. It's a small-scale manufactured project by an Italian scener, and one of the most beautiful C64 peripherals I've seen, including the original ones from the 80s.

Wow. I didn't know about uIEC or C64SD. So do these things emulate a 1541? As in, I can read AND write to SD cards and the process is transparent to the C64 (as far as it knows it could just as well be connected to a real 1541)?

Yup! They're not perfect but they are superb.
